Civale, Kelly and Gaddis combine to shutout Loons

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains (54-46) shut out the Great Lakes Loons (53-47) in a 5-0 win on Friday night at Classic Park. Aaron Civale, Kevin Kelly and Hunter Gaddis combined for the shutout and 13 total strikeouts.

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains (54-46) shut out the Great Lakes Loons (53-47) in a 5-0 win on Friday night at Classic Park. Aaron Civale, Kevin Kelly and Hunter Gaddis combined for the shutout and 13 total strikeouts.

Civale tossed 4.1 scoreless innings on an MLB rehab assignment. The Captains starter allowed just one hit with four strikeouts.

Kelly bridged the gap between Civale and Gaddis, working 0.2 innings including a strikeout.

Gaddis (4-8) earned the win out of the bullpen for Lake County. He spun the final four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts to go with three hits allowed and two walks.

The Captains jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Johnathan Rodriguez and Raynel Delgado collected back to back singles to start the rally. They advanced to second and third on a Joe Donovan groundout. Wilfri Peralta delivered a two-run single that brought in Rodriguez and Delgado, and Peralta moved to second base on the throw home. The Captains’ leadoff man Julian Esocbedo delivered the fourth Captains single in the inning to send Peralta home and give Lake County a three run advantage.

Joe Donovan got hit by a pitch to reach first and lead off the bottom of the sixth for the Captains. With two outs, José Tena smoked a line drive home run to right field to give the Captains a 5-0 lead.

Logan Boyer (0-3) was handed the loss for Great Lakes. He allowed three runs on six hits with one walk.

Daniel Espino is scheduled to start in game five of the six-game series onSaturday night. First pitch at Classic Park is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
