(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains (20-18) scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on Wednesday to notch their second straight come-from-behind win over the West Michigan Whitecaps (19-18). Joe Naranjo’s go-ahead single capped the rally and led the Captains to a 4-2 win in game two of the six-game series at Classic Park.

The Whitecaps struck first in the top of the second inning. A leadoff single by Bryant Packard was the first hit allowed by Captains starter Xzavion Curry. Wenceel Perez doubled off the right field wall with one out to put runners on second and third. That brought Rey Rivera to the plate. He hit a soft ground ball to Victor Nova at third base. Nova fielded the ball and fired home, as Packard raced toward the dish. The throw beat Packard, but he slid under the tag of Captains catcher Bryan Lavastida to give the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead.

Eric De La Rosa added to the Whitecaps’ lead in the fifth inning. De La Rosa led off the frame with a solo home run to right-center field to give West Michigan a 2-0 lead.

The Captains stormed back in the bottom of the eighth. Raynel Delgado led off with a double to the right-center field gap against reliever Xavier Javier. Austen Wade walked to put runners on first and second, then Daniel Schneemann singled up the middle to drive home Delgado and advance Wade to third. The Whitecaps went to the bullpen and brought in Jared Tobey, who also pitched on Tuesday night, to face José Tena. Tena delivered for the Captains, lacing an RBI double to the right-center gap to tie the game at 2-2. After Tobey struck out Will Brennan for the first out, the Whitecaps intentionally walked Lavastida to load the bases for Naranjo. The Captains’ first baseman responded with a two-run single to center field to push the Captains in front, 4-2.

Nathan Ocker (2-0) worked two scoreless innings out of the Captains’ bullpen to earn the win. He allowed one hit, one walk and struck out one.

Javier (0-1) allowed three of the Captains’ runs in the eighth inning to take the loss. The three runs came on two hits and a walk.

Kevin Kelly (4) slammed the door in the ninth to earn the save. He allowed a one out single, but struck out the side in the inning to secure the win.

Logan Allen gets the ball for the Captains in game three against the West Michigan Whitecaps. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Classic Park.
