Burns powers Captains to third straight win

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains (14-14) got a career high, six innings from starter Tanner Burns and won their third straight game, 8-4 against the Dayton Dragons (15-13) on Friday from Classic Park.

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains (14-14) got a career high, six innings from starter Tanner Burns and won their third straight game, 8-4 against the Dayton Dragons (15-13) on Friday from Classic Park.

Will Brennan got the Captains on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the third. Jonathan Engelmann and Austen Wade both walked. With one out Brennan lined a double over Michael Siani’s head in centerfield. Engelmann and Austen Wade both scored to give the Captains a 2-0 lead.

A Brayan Rocchio homer extended the Captains’ lead to 3-0 in the sixth. Rocchio led off the frame with a blast to right-centerfield for his third long ball of the season and his first batting left-handed.

Lake County added a run in the bottom of the seventh. With nobody on and one out Mike Amditis lifted a solo home run out to left field to make the score 4-0, Captains.

In the bottom of the seventh the Captains added to their lead. They loaded the bases with nobody out with three consecutive singles. With one out a sacrifice fly from Engelmann plated

Aaron Bracho. Wade and Amditis both singled with two outs to score José Tena and Joe Naranjo both scored to make the score 7-0 Captains. Lake County wasn’t done yet in the frame. Brennan collected the sixth single of the inning for the Captains to drive home Wade and extend the lead to 8-0, Captains.

Dayton the Captains lead in the top of the ninth. A soft triple down the left field line for Siani got the inning started. He scored on a bloop double to right field from Quincy McAfee. A single from Alex McGarry put runners on the corners for Dayton. A Quin Cotton double to center plated McAfee and a passed ball allowed McGarry to come home. With one out Miguel Hernandez grounded out to second base which brought Cotton home to make the score 8-4, Captains.

Burns (1-2) spun six scoreless innings in his longest professional start to earn his first career win. He allowed four hits and struck out six.

Noah Davis (0-4) worked 5.2 innings for the Dragons. He allowed three runs on three hits, five walks with eight strikeouts.

The Captains and the Dragons are set to match up for the fifth game of the series on Saturday. First pitch from Classic Park is set for 7:00 p.m.
