Summary of January Fan Club Meeting
The first guest speaker of the evening was Jon Warden. Warden, a former relief pitcher, made his major league debut in 1968 with the Detroit Tigers. In that year, he won four games, and helped the Tigers win the World Series. Warden spoke about earning a spot on the Tigers 40 man roster, being in Spring Training, and then making the major league team.
The next speaker was our new manager, Andy Barkett. Barkett played one season in the major leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2001. He spoke about being called up to the Pirates, and playing with All-Stars, including: Alex Rodriguez, Miguel Tejada, and the Tigers' own, Miguel Cabrera.
After Barkett spoke, Zach Burek, General Manager of the Flying Tigers, introduced the Flying Tigers interns. The community relations intern is Brittany Hammerberg. Hammerberg is from Lakeland and attended Florida Southern College. Burek then introduced Ryan Jones, who is the media relations intern. Jones is from Bolingbrook, IL and attends Saint Leo University. The Flying Tigers third intern is Matt Maurer. Maurer is from Troy, IL and attended Saint Louis University. Nick Phelps rounds out the Flying Tigers interns for the 2008 season. Phelps is from Hartford, KY and attended Lindsey Wilson College.
Following the introduction of the interns, the Flying Tigers Ticket Manager, Ryan Eason spoke about Spring Training and Flying Tigers tickets. Spring Training tickets are going fast! Those who pre-ordered their tickets by order form can now pick up their tickets at the Joker Marchant Stadium Box Office. The box office is located at 2301 Lakeland Hills Boulevard. It is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fans will be able to purchase their Flying Tigers tickets at a date that will be determined soon.
The fourth speaker was Zach Burek. Burek spoke about the promotions for the 2008 season. Currently, the Flying Tigers staff is discussing a number of different ideas. The staff is scheduled to present a calendar of this season's planned promotions at the next fan club meeting.
The last speaker of the evening was Ron Myers, Director of Florida Operations for the Detroit Tigers. Myers briefly mentioned a few of the benefits of being a Flying Tigers season ticket holder. He also spoke about the construction that is occurring at Fetzer Hall, and the new Joker Marchant Stadium marquee.
The next fan club meeting will occur in February. The date and time of the meeting will be announced in the next few weeks.
