"Without question, El Viento de Lancaster will be back at The Hangar in 2020," said JetHawks General Manager Tom Backemeyer, "The electricity in the ballpark on Friday nights was unmatched, and the feedback from fans has been incredible."
Minor League Baseball's "Copa de la Diversíon" initiative, which had 72 teams participating across the country in 2019, was created with a focus on celebrating local Hispanic & Latin culture. The JetHawks played 10 of their Friday nights as 'EL Viento de Lancaster', or 'The Wind of Lancaster', with new uniforms & caps, and an emphasis on connecting with new fans in the Antelope Valley.
Through the 10 nights, partnering with High Desert Medical Group and Que Buena 96.1, fans enjoyed six firework shows, a sugar skull bobblehead giveaway from the City of Lancaster, live Mariachis provided by Vallarta Supermarkets, Folklorico dancers, authentic food provided by local vendors and much more. Additional themes for El Viento Friday nights included two Michelada Festivals, a Taco Throwdown, Selena-themed fireworks and Princess in the Park.
"We wanted to make sure that each night was unique, that every game was a celebration, and most of all that everything we did was authentic," said JetHawks Assistant GM Katie Woods, "The relationships that we made in the community this season, and the support & partnership we have received has been amazing. We can't wait to add even more family friendly entertainment to these nights in 2020."
The JetHawks 2020 season kicks off on Thursday, April 9th against the San Jose Giants in Lancaster, and El Viento de Lancaster will make its 2020 debut on Friday, April 10th.
