RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - The JetHawks fell behind by four in the first inning and were unable to make it close in a 6-1 loss to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Tuesday night at LoanMart Field.
The loss was the third in-a-row for Lancaster (11-9, 44-46) and dropped them to a season-high nine games out of first place behind Rancho Cucamonga (18-2, 53-37). The win extended the Quakes' franchise-record win streak to 15 games.
Brandon Gold (6-6) escaped multiple jams over his five-inning start but was unable to work his way out of a first-inning jam that ultimately cost him the game. Cristian Santana delivered a two-out two-run double to put the Quakes on the board. Logan Landon followed with a two-run home run to put Rancho up, 4-0.
Quakes starter Tony Gonsolin (4-2) made quick work of the JetHawks over the first two frames. He retired all six batters with five strikeouts.
The JetHawks picked up their only run against Gonsolin in the fourth inning. Tyler Nevin drew a one-out walk and eventually scored on a Brian Serven two-out single. The Rancho right-hander went five innings and allowed only three hits while striking out 11.
Gold did not allow another run but dealt with traffic on the bases throughout his start. He yielded 10 hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Salvador Justo gave up two runs in the sixth inning to complete the scoring.
Colton Welker and Carlos Herrera each went 1-for-4 to extend their hitting streaks. Welker's is now at 13 games while Herrera tied his season-high with a hit in eight-straight.
The four-game series continues Wednesday at LoanMart Field. Ty Culbreth (4-3) will start for Lancaster opposite Isaac Anderson (4-5). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
