The Lynchburg Hillcats are on the verge of being swept for the first time this season after dropping game five of the series to the Carolina Mudcats by a score of 7-1 on Saturday night.

Carolina capitalized on all their opportunities to bury the Hillcats early in the game. Lynchburg, struggled with runners in scoring position, leaving the bases loaded in the eighth inning without driving home a run.

The Mudcats struck first in the first inning on a Jace Avina single that scored Luis Lara. In the second, Carolina would tack on two more as Jadher Areinamo would drive home Quinton Low and Jesus Parra on an RBI single.

Lynchburg would get their lone run of the ballgame in the third inning as Guy Lipscomb led off the frame with a double down the right field line. He would be brough home by Angel Genao who with a double of his own would plate the Hillcats only run.

In the fifth, Carolina put the Hillcats away for good as they would tack on four runs in the inning. Luis Lara, Jadher Areinamo, Luke Adams, and Avina all would score in the inning, essentially putting the game out of reach.

Lynchburg would go quietly until the eighth inning when they would load up the bases and put a real threat together. However, the runners would be left stranded as the Hillcats could never overcome the large deficit.

Lynchburg and Carolina will square off one final time this week on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Bank of the James Stadium.
