51s Announce 2010 Season Awards On Fan Appreciation Night
51s General Manager Don Logan announced the following awards: Mayor's Trophy: Catcher J.P. Arencibia; Most Valuable Player: Catcher J.P. Arencibia; Most Valuable Pitcher: Jesse Carlson; Community Service Award: Outfielder Aaron Mathews.
The Mayor's Trophy has been given annually since 1983 and is voted on by the fans.

J.P. Arencibia (Mayor's Trophy & Most Valuable Player): Arencibia has appeared in 102 games and is batting .295 (119-for-403) and leads the PCL in extra-base hits (66), tied for 1st in home runs (31) and ranks third in total bases (248) and second in slugging percentage (.615). He also leads the team in doubles (34), RBI (81) and compiled a team-high 21-game hitting streak from June 21 - July 17; has recorded 38 multiple-hit games and has hit safely in 71 games. Arencibia was named to the PCL All-Star Team (July 1); Topps Player of the Month (June) and PCL Player of the Week (July 5).
He was promoted to Toronto and made his Major League debut on August 7 against Tampa and was 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs and 3 RBI. He became the first player since 1889 to compile two home runs and four hits in his Major League debut and is the fifth player to homer twice in his debut. Arencibia also became the first Blue Jays player to compile a four-hit game in his debut and was the first Toronto player in 21 years to homer in his first career at-bat (on the first pitch). Overall, he appeared in 5 games for the Blue Jays and batted .250 (5-for-20) with 2 HR and 4 RBI (August 7-18).
Jesse Carlson (Most Valuable Pitcher): Carlson has been one of the most consistent pitchers on the staff. The left-handed reliever leads the staff with 45 appearances. He compiled a 3-1 record with four saves and a 4.24 ERA and allowed 56 hits in 51.0 innings pitched and struck out 43 batters. He posted victories against Tacoma (May 28 and July 19) and Salt Lake (June 15). Carlson was promoted to Toronto on August 16 and previously compiled 144 appearances for the Blue Jays over a two-year span (69 games in 2008 and a career-high 73 games in '09).
Aaron Mathews (Community Service Award): Mathews is the recipient of the community service award. He has participated in various kids' events, charity functions (i.e., TIP A 51) and pre-game events throughout the season.
The outstanding defensive outfielder has appeared in 79 games and is batting .337 (98-for-291) with 20 doubles, 2 triples, 10 home runs and 40 RBI. He compiled a season-high 14-game hitting streak from August 7-21.
The most valuable player and most valuable pitcher were chosen by the 51s coaching staff and the community service award was chosen by the 51s front office.
The 51s, under manager Dan Rohn, will host the Reno Aces, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in the final two home games of the season on Saturday and Sunday, August 28 and 29 at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field.
The 2010 regular season will conclude with an eight-game road trip at Sacramento, Calif., against the River Cats from August 30 - September 2 and a "Labor Day" weekend four-game series at Portland, Ore., against the Beavers from September 3-6.
