All-Star Game voting ends Friday
Fans have until 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday night to vote for the Triple-A All-Star Game, which will be held July 13 in Salt Lake City.
That means, for Indians fans, time is running out to get top prospect Jason Kipnis into the starting lineup -- the second baseman trails Lehigh Valley's Josh Barfield by just a matter of votes for the International League squad.
Another Cleveland farmhand, Lonnie Chisenhall, has a firm lead at third base for the IL, holding down an infield that, as of Thursday morning, would include Pawtucket's Jose Iglesias at shortstop and Lehigh Valley's Jeff Larish at first base.
Lehigh Valley's Erik Kratz has the lead behind the plate.
Pawtucket's Lars Anderson is right behind Larish at first, while Syracuse's Michael Aubrey has a larger margin between him and Indianapolis' Andy Marte at designated hitter.
In the IL outfield, Lehigh Valley's Brandon Moss has fallen out of the race a bit after holding down one of the top three spots last week. Louisville's Jeremy Hermida remains the top vote-getter, followed by Durham's Desmond Jennings and Reds prospect Yonder Alonso. Indy's Alex Presley trails that trio by the slimmest of margins.
Syracuse's Jeff Mandel and Lehigh Valley's Drew Carpenter (the write-in wonder) lead among IL relievers, while Brian Gordon and Toledo's Adam Wilk hold the top spots for starters. Gordon, though, opted out of his contract with Lehigh Valley and is pitching in the Majors with the Yankees. Atlanta's Julio Teheran ranks third in voting for starters.
In the Pacific Coast League, three members of the host Salt Lake Bees lead in voting at their positions: third baseman Jeff Baisley, second baseman Gil Velazquez and reliever Barret Browning.
Collin Cowgill (Reno), Tyler Colvin (Iowa) and Travis Ishikawa (Fresno) lead the outfield voting, with Reno's Cole Gillespie and Memphis' Andrew Brown both within striking distance.
Designated hitter Wily Mo Pena, recently promoted to Arizona, remains the PCL's overall top vote-getter. The veteran slugger has nearly double the votes of fellow designated hitters Omaha's Kila Ka'aihue and Salt Lake's Paul McAnulty.
Iowa teammates Bryan LaHair (first base) and Jonathon Mota (shortstop) comprise the rest of the PCL infield, while Las Vegas' Brian Jeroloman is the top catcher.
Nashville's Sam Narron and Sacramento's Graham Godfrey led among PCL starting pitchers last week, but both have been bounced -- Fresno's Andrew Kown has stormed to the front, with Las Vegas' Brad Mills close behind. Nashville's Mark DiFelice ranks second in relief voting behind Browning.
