Back to School: Former Crawdads in the High School Ranks

With the beginning of the high school baseball season in the Hickory Metro this week, its time to take a quick look at former Crawdads who are working as coaches at high schools across the country.

Here are the 12 known players who will be in high school dugouts this spring:

Chuck Antczak ('97): Riverview (Sarasota, FL) - Head Coach. Antczak is in his first year at Riverview after spending a year at North Port High in Sarasota. He was also the head coach at Cardinal Mooney in Sarasota from 2000-2004.

Russ Bayer ('03): South Forsyth (Cummings, GA) - Head Coach. Bayer is in his second season with the War Eagles. In his first season as the head coach, South Forsyth won their region championship, which earned them a spot in the state playoffs.

Chad Bradford ('98): Central Hinds Academy (Raymond, MS) - Assistant Coach. Retiring from the big leagues after the 2008 season, Bradford joined the Cougars staff in 2010 as an assistant coach.

Bradley Clapp ('07-'08): Aloha (OR) - Pitching Coach. Clapp is in his first season as the Warriors pitching coach.

Brad Corley ('06): St Stanislaus College Prep (Bay St. Louis, MS) - Assistant Coach. Corley is in his first season with the Rock-A-Chaws. He spent a brief portion of last season with the Colorado Rockies farm team at Tri-City.

Brian Drent ('95): Sioux City North (IA) - Head Coach. Drent is in his sixth season with the Stars. He won the Iowa 4A state championship in 2009 and was the 4A state Coach of the Year as well. The Stars made a return trip to the state playoffs last season, but lost in the quarterfinal round.

Adam Forbes ('95): Cambridge Park (Sydney, Australia) - Head Coach.

Mario Iglesias ('96-'97): Castro Valley (CA) - Head Coach. After working as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater Stanford University last season, Iglesias takes the head coaching reins of the Trojans program for the first time in 2011.

Ryan Ledden ('00): Brookwood (Snellville, GA) - Hitting Coach. Ledden is in his eighth season with the Broncos program, where they won the 5A state championship in 2008.

Jose Luis Lopez ('00, '02): Calallen (Corpus Christi, TX) - Assistant Coach. Lopez joined the Wildcats program in 2007 and is now in his fifth season. The perennial power won the state 4A title in 2008 and was the runner up last year.

Jay Meyer ('94): Lee's Summit West (MO) - Head Coach. Meyer is in his 5th season as the Titans coach.

Steve Schorzman ('00): Cle Elum-Roslyn (WA) Head Coach. Schorzman joined the Warriors in 2009 after three seasons at Vernonia (OR).
