Baez homers in Smokies' victory

Javier Baez hit a two-run homer, singled and scored twice on Saturday night, helping Tennessee edge Chattanooga, 4-3. The Cubs' top prospect has 19 homers in 52 games with the Smokies after hitting 17 in 76 contests with Class A Advanced Daytona.

No. 14 prospect Christian Villanueva added his 18th roundtripper and second in three games for Tennessee, while No. 9 prospect Matt Szczur singled twice and walked.

Dodgers top prospect Joc Pederson smacked his 22nd homer for the Lookouts.

Shane Greene pitched a three-hitter for his first career complete game as Trenton secured an Eastern League playoff berth by blanking Portland, 8-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. The 24-year-old right-hander won for the fifth time in his last six decisions and recorded his 12th victory across two levels this season.

Yankees top prospect Gary Sanchez hit a two-run double and Jose Pirela ripped a two-run homer, doubled and scored twice for the Thunder.

J.C. Linares picked up a pair of hits for the Sea Dogs.

Chris Beck pitched seven strong innings to win his second straight start for Birmingham, which shut down visiting Montgomery, 5-1. The White Sox No. 5 prospect allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out three in his fifth Southern League start.

Chris McMurray smacked a two-run homer and scored twice for the Barons, who got a pair of hits and two runs scored from No. 7 prospect Brandon Jacobs.

Todd Glaesmann doubled and scored the Biscuits' lone run.

Padres No. 14 prospect Cory Spangenberg went 3-for-4, scored twice and fell a homer shy of the cycle, but San Antonio squandered a late lead in a 10-9 loss at Corpus Christi.

Ronald Torreyes went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored and also came within a homer of hitting for the cycle for the Hooks. Torreyes' bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the ninth inning set the stage for a walk-off single by Preston Tucker, who also finished with four hits.

Tommy Medica was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored for the Missions.

Nathan Karns pitched seven strong innings and delivered an RBI single to lead Harrisburg to a 12-3 romp at Richmond. The Nationals' fifth-ranked prospect allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out seven to lower his ERA to 3.26.

Steven Souza, Rick Hague and Brian Jeroloman drove in three runs apiece for the Senators, who totaled 13 hits.

Jarrett Parker homered and scored twice for the Flying Squirrels.
