BIG INNING DOOMS FREDERICK IN FINALE

In 7-3 Loss, Frederick Allowed Four Runs to Score in the Fifth Inning
August 4, 2010
Despite scoring the first run of the night, the Keys dropped the rubbermatch to the Salem Red Sox, 7-3. Salem scored a run in the fourth to tie the game up and then unleashed four runs in the sixth and cruised to a victory in the final game these two teams are scheduled to play at Harry Grove Stadium in 2010.

After a scoreless first inning, Frederick struck first in the bottom of the second. With one down, 3B Miguel Abreu turned on a pitch from RHP Michael Lee and drove it to rightfield for his fourth homerun of the season. Abreu was slated to start Wednesday's game at designated hitter but Billy Rowell was scratched from the lineup prior to start of the contest after pulling his oblique.

Salem tied up the game in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by DH Dan Butler.

With the game tied up at one, the Red Sox blew the game open with a four-run fifth inning. After Zach Clark struck out SS Ryan Dent, Salem put together a string of three straight hits to load the bases. The next batter, 2B Oscar Tejeda, walked to bring home 3B Jon Hee to give Salem the lead. LF Alex Hassan hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield on what was Zach Clark's last pitch of the night. John Mariotti entered the game and gave up a two-run double to C Tim Federowicz. In all, Salem scored four runs on four hits to give the Red Sox a 5-1 lead.

On the night, RHP Zach Clark allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Clark struck out seven and walked two on the night.

The Keys strung together two more runs but ultimately fell 7-3 to Salem in the series finale. RHP Michael Lee improved 9-4 on the season while Zach Clark fell to 1-1 for Frederick.

Frederick will be in Winston-Salem, NC on Thursday night for the start of an eight-game road trip. RHP Luis Noel (2-1, 5.95) will start for the Keys while the Dash will toss RHP Stephen Sauer (6-8, 5.03). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. from BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem.
