Bisons' Hendriks to start for IL All-Stars

Aussie right-hander is first Buffalo hurler to do so since 1993

The International League announced today that Buffalo Bisons right-hander Liam Hendriks will be the starting pitcher for the IL squad in Wednesday's Cree Triple-A All-Star Game in Durham, NC. Hendriks was elected as a starting pitcher from ballots submitted by club's field managers and general managers (1/3), members of the media (1/3), and online fan voting (1/3).

Hendriks is 7-1 with a 2.19 ERA in 16 games (14 starts) with the Bisons this season. He leads all International League pitchers with a 0.91 WHIP and the fewest walks (0.70) and baserunners (8.77) per nine innings of work. His 2.19 ERA is the 2nd-best mark in the IL. Hendriks won his first six decisions of the season and has allowed two or fewer earned runs in eleven of his 14 starts. He began the season with 28.1 consecutive innings of work without issuing a walk. On the season Hendriks has allowed just seven free passes to 74 strikeouts in 94.1 IP innings of work.

Hendriks has also made three starts for the Toronto Blue Jays this season, posting a record of 1-0. He has 33 career appearances in the Major Leagues, including 30 with Minnesota between 2011-13.

The last Buffalo pitcher to start the Triple-A All-Star Game was Roy Smith in 1993, who was the winning pitcher for the National League Affiliates in Albuquerque, NM.

The Cree Triple-A All-Star Game, presented by Gildan, will be broadcast live from Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Wednesday, July 16 on MLB Network and streamed online at MiLB.TV. The All-Star Game festivities in Durham get underway Saturday, July 12 with a free Fan Fest & Block Party, followed by the Triple-A Home Run Derby on July 14.
