Bowker Wins 2nd Straight PCL Honors

Grizzlies Slugger At The Forefront Of Fresno's Current Success
June 8, 2009
FRESNO, CA - Grizzlies outfielder John Bowker has repeated as the Pacific Coast League's Hitter of the Week for the week ending June 7th, the League announced today. The Fresno slugger is the first back-to-back PCL Hitter of the Week Award winner in over a year.

Bowker went an impressive 13-for-26 (.500), hitting three doubles, four home runs, with nine runs scored, and 11 RBI. The Sacramento native has now climbed into a tie for 5th in the PCL in batting (.361) with teammate Jesus Guzman, and 2nd in the League with a .468 on-base percentage.

With consecutive weeks as the top hitter in the PCL, Bowker has amassed a fourteen game hitting streak, in which he has helped lead the Grizzlies to a 10-4 record. Over the fourteen game stretch, Bowker is hitting .519 (27-for-52), with five double and six home runs, while scoring 16 times, and driving in 18 runs. Coming off a franchise best 21-8 record for the month of May, Fresno shows no signs of slowing down. The Grizzlies have won three straight (5-2 in June), pulling within two games of Sacramento for first place in the PCL Pacific Southern division.

Bowker's second selection in as many weeks is the third selection for a Grizzly player this year. Jesus Guzman was honored as the PCL's Hitter of the Week for the week ending May 3rd. Nashville Sounds pitcher Lindsay Gulin was named the League's Pitcher of the Week.

Fresno looks for their fourth straight victory tonight at Chukchansi Park as they host Salt Lake in the third of a four game series. For more information regarding tickets and promotions call 559.320.HITS or visit the new-and-improved FresnoGrizzlies.com.
