Buffalo Drops First of Four With Sox

The Herd got on the board first, plating two runs in the third with back-to-back-to-back hits. Fernando Martinez began with an infield single that forced pitcher Charlie Zink to throw wide of first base. With expansive foul territory at McCoy Stadium, the ball rolled all the way to the stands and allowed F-Mart to reach third. Wily Mo Pena came up next and belted a double off the right field wall to score Martinez. Pena was scored by a Javier Valentin single. The hits gave Buffalo a 2-0 lead.

The Red Sox did not go quietly, however, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Sox sent a runner to second base for the first time in the game that inning. Jonathon Van Every and Chip Ambres hit singled after each other. Chris Carter then doubled into the right corner to plate two runs and knock Kyle Snyder from the game. The Bisons starter went a solid five and one third innings. He was charged with all three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

With Carlos Muniz on in relief and the game tied at two, Paul McAnulty singled to score Carter and take a 3-2 lead. That would be the final.

The Bisons did have a chance in the eighth when F-Mart led off with a walk. He stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. With one out Javier Valentin flied out to left and deep enough to allow Martinez to tag up. The throw was not deep enough to allow the run to score, however, as Ambres gunned the Buffalo runner down at the plate to end the inning.
