Bulls Trip Up Tides in 10; Move Into 3rd

Norfolk, VA --- Reid Brignac singled home the go-ahead run in the 10th inning, with Jeff Salazar driving in an insurance run to lead the Durham Bulls past the Norfolk Tides 3-1 on Sunday afternoon and into sole possession of third place.

The Bulls, who won their fourth straight road game, battled to a 0-0 tie into the seventh inning thanks to the longest start of the season by Lance Pendleton. Pendleton worked 6 1/3 innings, fanning a season-best eight hitters, but was relieved with one out and one on in the seventh by Josh Lueke. Blake Davis drove a two-out triple over the head of Jesus Feliciano in center to put the Tides ahead 1-0.

However the Bulls struck right back in the eighth against reliever Zach Phillips, who replaced starter Jason Berken after seven scoreless frames. Brignac singled and scored on Salazar's double into the right field corner.

In the 10th, the Bulls' threat commenced on a two-base throwing error by former AL MVP Miguel Tejada, shortarming a throw that bounced into the stands allowing Henry Wrigley to reach second. Shawn O'Malley entered to pinch-run, and after a failed sacrifice bunt attempt for the first out, Brignac grounded a single to right to bring O'Malley home for a 2-1 lead. Salazar followed with a liner to left-center to put the Bulls up 3-1.

Bryan Augenstein (W, 1-0) threw two perfect innings to earn his first win in the Rays organization.

The Bulls continue their 10-game road trip Memorial Day Monday at 6:05 PM ET from Victory Field in Indianapolis, IN against the first place Indians in the West Division.
