Captains upend Fort Wayne, 7-6

Three runs in final two innings doom TinCaps
April 18, 2010
EASTLAKE, Ohio - The TinCaps had two different leads Sunday against Lake County, but couldn't hold on as the Captains came back to stun Fort Wayne, 7-6, in walk-off fashion. Dean Anna belted a grand slam in the loss.

Captains OF Bo Greenwell, son of former major leaguer Mike Greenwell, went 3-for-4, drive in three runs and scored twice, including the game-winner in the 9th.

The TinCaps were down early thanks to a pair of 1st-inning runs. Greenwell cracked a solo homer to right, then Casey Frawley's RBI single made it 2-0.

Fort Wayne came right back in the top of the 2nd, capitalizing on control problems by Lake County RHP Trey Haley, who loaded the bases with walks. Anna nailed the first pitch over the wall in right-center to put the TinCaps ahead, 4-2.

In the 5th, Lake County rallied thanks to another big hit by Greenwell. This time, he stroked a two-out, two-run single up the middle to tie the game at 4-4.

A two-run, opposite-field home run by Edinson Rincon in the 8th inning put the TinCaps back in front, 6-4, but the lead was short-lived. RHP Stiven Osuna allowed an unearned run on an RBI double by Jeremie Tice and another on a bases-loaded hit batsman to deadlock the game at 6-6. Osuna got out of the jam by inducing a double play.

The Captains mounted a two-out rally in the bottom of the 9th to win it. Osuna issued back-to-back two-out walks, then Tice chopped a ball up the middle for the game-winning single.

Lake County LHP Francisco Jimenez (4-0) was the winning pitcher; he has picked up wins in all four of his appearances this season. Osuna (0-1) took the loss.

Fort Wayne fell to 6-5 while Lake County improved to 10-1.

The TinCaps and Captains (Class-A Cleveland Indians) finish the three-game series Monday at 6:30 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Jerry Sullivan (1-0) gets the starting nod against Lake County RHP Joe Gardner (1-0).
