September 3, 2012

On the final day of the 2012 season, the Clippers pulled out a 4-3 victory over the Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field in Toledo.

Columbus would jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Jared Goedert drove home Tim Fedroff with an RBI single to left. The Clippers would then add to their advantage in the top of the fourth. With runners on second and third, Luke Carlin lined an extra base hit off of the right field wall, driving home both runner and extending his club's edge to 3-0.

Meanwhile, Cole Cook delivered a solid start on the mound, shutting out the Hens on five hits while striking out five and walking one in five innings of work. The Mud Hens would finally get on the scoreboard when Ben Guez launched a homer over the left field wall in the bottom of the sixth.

Toledo would inch closer when Audy Ciriaco scored on an Argenis Diaz groundout in the bottom of the seventh, making it a 3-2 affair. They then tied it in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double by Ciriaco, knotting things at 3-3.

In the top of the ninth, the Clippers went to work with the bats. Luke Carlin led off the frame with a single to left. He would be sacrificed to second on an Aaron Cunningham bunt up the third base line. Tim Fedroff then drove home his teammate with an RBI single to right, giving the lead back to Columbus 4-3.

Dan Wheeler would come on in the bottom of the ninth, looking to nail down another win for the Clippers. The Hens had the potential tying run on second with one out, but Wheeler struck out Cale Iorg and got Jerad Head to ground out to second to end the game. Matt Langwell (W, 4-0) was the winning pitcher, Jose Ortega (L, 5-8) took the loss for Toledo, and Wheeler picked up his fifth save of the season. The win gave Columbus a winning 2012 record of 75-69.

Clippers fans, thank you for another season of support, and we'll see you again in 2013. Have a wonderful off-season!
