Cubs' Soto finishes up rehab assignment tonight

All-Star catcher wraps up three-game rehab assignment Wednesday at Smokies Park
August 5, 2009

Hey Smokies fans...don't miss your chance to see Chicago Cubs All-Star catcher Geovany Soto live and up-close here at Smokies Park tonight, August 5! The 2008 National League All-Star is wrapping up his three-game rehab stint here at Smokies Park. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.

Soto is in his second season with the Cubs. While his sophomore year in the Windy City has not been as successful as his 2008 season due to injury, he's hoping to make a strong comeback in the second half to help the Cubbies win their third consecutive N.L. Central pennant. The Puerto Rico native's 2008 stats (23 HR, 86 RBIs, .285 average) earned him the 2008 National League Rookie of the Year and a spot on the 2008 All-Star roster.

The accolades don't stop there though for the 26-year old. In his final year with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs in 2007, Soto was named by Baseball America to its Minor League All-Star and Pacific Coast League (PCL) All-Star teams. He was also named in 2007 MLB.com's Triple-A Offensive Player of the Year and took home the PCL's Most Valuable Player award. Soto selected by the Cubs in the 11th round of the 2001 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Soto's expected stint with us here at Smokies Park promises to be one hot ticket! You can purchase tickets on our Web site here by clicking on the "Tickets" link in the upper right-hand corner of our home page, by calling us at (865) 286-2300 or here at our stadium ticket office.
