- The Altoona Curve and Peoples Natural Gas today announced a partnership that will rename the Logan Township ballpark in which the Curve play and potentially help spur economic development with the use of green energy.
Beginning today, the facility at 1000 Park Avenue formerly known as Blair County Ballpark, will be renamed Peoples Natural Gas Field. Major signage on the exterior and interior of Peoples Natural Gas Field will bear the new name and a logo that has been developed for it. In addition, the Curve will be including the new name and logo in their communications, marketing, and promotional efforts. Peoples Natural Gas will also continue to sponsor a celebrity appearance, a promotional giveaway event, a customer appreciation night, and their current signage on the scoreboard on an annual basis.
"The Altoona Curve is proud to announce our new, extended partnership with Peoples Natural Gas," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "It's a testament to the community support of the franchise and the commitment of our ownership group to continually reinvest in the facility, that Peoples Natural Gas views this investment as valuable for all involved - the franchise, their company, and the region. We are excited to call our home 'Peoples Natural Gas Field' beginning today and greatly anticipate the potential economic development this partnership could bring."
As part of the agreement, the Altoona Curve and Peoples Natural Gas have begun a study to determine ways to implement more green energy technology for the ballpark facility and possibly neighboring entities. If deemed to be feasible by the study, such technologies could increase energy efficiency, reduce costs, and be friendlier to the environment. Details of the study, its results, and possible implementation of its recommendations will be made at a later date.
"We appreciate the vision and community-mindedness that Peoples Natural Gas has brought to this partnership," Egan said. "They truly are invested in the communities in which they serve and want to see attractions such as ours be viable and successful long into the future. An agreement such as this allows the Altoona Curve to continue to offer affordable, family-style entertainment for the region."
Peoples Natural Gas provides safe and reliable service to approximately 360,000 homes and businesses in 16 western Pennsylvania counties. Since the company's founding in 1885, Peoples Natural Gas has been providing Western Pennsylvania with clean, safe and reliable natural gas. Over 15 years ago, the company was purchased and made a subsidiary of a multi-state utility. In February 2010, that utility sold Peoples Natural Gas to a private investment firm that brought our headquarters back to Western Pennsylvania. Today, the company is re-establishing itself as a committed community partner and a leader in the natural gas industry. Peoples Natural Gas is once more fully focused on our neighborhoods and Western Pennsylvania's future growth. Their vision is to help Western Pennsylvania move forward by serving its customers well, creating jobs, and supporting economic development in the region.
"Peoples Natural Gas is proud to make investments in our communities that foster economic development and supports the overall quality of life in this region," said President & CEO of Peoples Natural Gas Morgan O'Brien. "It is important to us that Western Pennsylvania thrives. The Altoona Curve and the people of Blair County have a wonderful facility that plays an important part in the economic development of the region.
"The Altoona Curve brings jobs and dollars to this community - not to mention family friendly entertainment. We are proud to expand our partnership with The Curve and are excited about the opportunity for the other potential groundbreaking aspects of this partnership in educating and showcasing alternative and economic means in supplying our region's energy needs."
