De Leon Named Pitcher of the Week Again

The Pioneer League announced Monday that Ogden Raptors Pitcher Jose De Leon was named Pitcher of the Week for the period of Aug. 4-10.

De Leon pitched seven shutout innings against Helena on Aug. 8, allowing just three hits and striking out 11 with no walks.

The honor was De Leon's second of the season. He won the award for the week of June 23-29. In two starts against Orem, De Leon went 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA, striking out 18 batters.

De Leon is the first Raptor to be named Pitcher of the Week twice in the same season since at least 2009. 

It is only the second time the Raptors have won three Pitcher of the Week awards in the same season. Edinson Bock won the award for the first week of the season after pitching six no-hit innings over two relief appearances. Kazuki Nishijima, Ross Stripling and Lindsey Caughel were all named Pitcher of the Week in 2012.

De Leon was promoted to Low-A Great Lakes after his start against Helena. He leaves the Pioneer League as the leader in ERA (2.65), strikeouts (77), WHIP (1.16) and batting average against (.217).

His 2.65 ERA is the third-best in Raptors history among pitcher with at least 50 innings pitched. He trails Chris Breslow's 1.82 in 2002 and Brent Leach's 2.43 in 2005.
