Dorta slam powers Tides to win

June 29, 2009
Melvin Dorta's grand slam powered the Tides to a 6-1 win over Lehigh Valley Monday night.

With the bases full and two out in the fifth inning, Dorta slugged a long fly ball to left field off of Gutstavo Chacin (2-3) that gave the Tides a 6-0 lead. Norfolk sent nine men to the plate in the decisive frame, an inning that was extended on a two-out error by former Tide Terry Tiffee.

Jolbert Cabrera and Brandon Snyder each had two hits for the Tides, while Michael Aubrey doubled and scored a run.

Andy Mitchell (5-2) earned the win for the Tides in just his third start of the season. Mitchell worked around four walks and six hits in six innings of work to allow one run while striking out two. Ross Wolf and Jim Miller followed Mitchell with three shutout innings of relief, over which the pair struck out seven.

The Tides and IronPigs will wrap up their four-game series on Tuesday night, with first pitch from Coca-Cola Park scheduled for 7:05.
