DOUBLE DIP SPLIT BETWEEN KEYS AND SOX

Frederick Scored Seven Runs in the First Three Innings of the 2011 Season
April 10, 2011

After rain spoiled Friday and Saturday night in Salem, the Keys and Red Sox split a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Lewis Gale Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark. Frederick dominated game one with seven runs in the first three innings of the game but Salem got the last laugh on the day. The Red Sox rallied from two down in the bottom of the seventh in game two and prevailed 5-4 in the second game. Frederick won game one 7-2. The Keys and Red Sox each sit at 1-1 on the 2011 season.

In game one of the doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, the Keys bats came to life immediately. CF Kyle Hudson led off the game with a single to leftfield. Two batters later, 1B Tyler Townsend doubled home Hudson on a shot to left-centerfield. Salem tied the game in the bottom of the first but Frederick quickly responded in the second. With 3B Dale Mollenhauer on second and C Brian Ward on first, SS Garabez Rosa crushed the Drake Britton pitch into right-centerfield for a two-run triple. Rosa scored on a Hudson single later in the second to give the Keys a 4-1 lead.

Leading by three, the Frederick bats were not done. With two men on, DH Tyler Kolodny belted a Britton delivery the opposite way for a three-run shot. Kolodny's blast gave the Keys a 7-1 lead after three innings in Salem.

RHP Ryan O'Shea departed game one with a no decision but pitched effectively. O'Shea allowed one earned run over three innings while walking one and striking out four. Townsend went 3-for-4 in the game with three doubles, a run scored, and a RBI.

In game two, the Keys trailed by two entering the fourth inning due to two unearned runs that were scored by Salem in the bottom of the third.

Frederick cut the deficit in half in the fifth with a RBI infield single from Dale Mollenhauer.

The big hit of the second contest came in the sixth inning by DH Buck Britton. With the bases loaded, Britton hit a bases clearing triple down the leftfield line. The Britton triple gave the Keys a two-run lead but Salem responded in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Josh Dowdy entered in the seventh to try to closeout the game for the Keys. With one out and one on, LF Ronald Bermudez hit a double of the wall in leftfield. C Matt Spring followed up with a two-run double to leftfield and two batters later 2B Vladimir Frias singled home Spring to give Salem the walk-off victory.

RHP Oliver Drake got a no-decision in game two. Drake tossed five innings and allowed two runs, zero earned, on two hits. He walked one and struck out three in his 2011 debut. LHP Nathan Moreau picked out the victory out of the bullpen in game one.

The Keys return to the field on Tuesday night for their home opener against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. RHP Bobby Bundy will make his Carolina League debut and will be opposed by LHP Robbie Ross.

Tuesday night is "Save Your Keys" night at Harry Grove Stadium. Every fan that comes to the game will receive a free "Save Your Keys" t-shirt. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
