Drive Gear Up in 11-4 Series Finale Win Over Hagerstown

Hagerstown, MD-The Hagerstown Suns (56-45, 16-15) were walloped by the Greenville Drive (54-48, 16-16) on Tuesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium, falling 11-4. Suns RHP Matt Swynenberg (3-1), the eventual losing pitcher of record, allowed eight runs, seven earned, on seven hits in 4.0 innings, while walking one and striking out three.

Greenville scored a trio of runs in the 1st inning on a two-run double up the left field line by SS Xander Bogaerts to score 2B Sean Coyle, who was hit by a pitch, and 1B Drew Hedman after he blooped a single to left field to get aboard. 3B David Renfroe, during a 3-for-4 day at the plate, sent a jam shot RBI single to left center field to plate Bogaerts.

The Suns got on the board in their first at-bat when CF Chris Curran cranked his first home run of the season, a solo shot into the right center field visiting bullpen.

LHP Manuel Rivera, who did not factor in the decision, tossed 3.0 innings and allowed on earned run on two hits.

The Drive scored a pair of runs in the 2nd stanza when Swynenberg balked DH Drew Dominguez to home plate and Coyle ripped an RBI single through the left side to score RF Felix Sanchez, who singled to right field to get on base.

Greenville supplemented their attack with three runs in the 3rd inning when Renfroe fleeted to home plate when C Cole Leonida fired an errant throw passed second base before with one on, C Carson Blair sent an opposite field deep line drive over the right center field barrier for his second homer of the year.

The Suns tallied one run in the 5th frame on an RBI sacrifice fly from 3B Blake Kelso to score LF Wade Moore.

Both clubs scored one run in the 7th stanza when Bogaerts homered to the right center field gap as part of a 3-for-5 performance with 3 RBI to give Greenville a 9-2 lead.

Hagerstown scored after stretch time when Leonida crushed a long-ball onto the hitting tunnel behind the left field wall, his second four-bagger of the season.

Greenville RHP Scott Swinson (3-2), the winning pitcher, gave up just two earned runs in 4.0 innings out of the bullpen on four hits and two walks.

Two more runs were plated for the visiting club in the top of the 9th inning when Dominguez grounded into an RBI fielder's choice and Blair ripped an RBI on-base knock through the left side.

The Suns grabbed one run before it was game over on an RBI fielder's choice punched by Kelso to the right side plating 3B Mills Rogers, who singled to center field. Hagerstown will embark on an eight-game road trip after an off day on Wednesday that brings the Suns to Salisbury, MD to take on the Delmarva Shorebirds before playing the Hickory Crawdads in the central section of the tar heel state . The starting pitching matchup is to be determined.
