Ellsbury, Cameron face Gibson in rehab

The Portland Sea Dogs got a little extra help in their lineup on Thursday, but it wasn't nearly enough to beat Kyle Gibson.

Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron batted in the top spots for the Sea Dogs as part of their rehab assignments as Double-A New Britain beat Portland, 6-2, on Thursday afternoon. Ellsbury went 3-for-4 with a double, a steal and a run scored, while Cameron finished 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Gibson, Minnesota's first-round pick in the 2009 Draft out of Missouri, was in control all afternoon, though, striking out six and allowing two runs over seven innings to remain undefeated. His ERA actually rose to 1.26 in the victory.

Ellsbury, sidelined with cracked ribs, and Cameron, on the 15-day disabled list with an abdomen injury, played together for the first time since April 11. Ellsbury played left field and Cameron manned center; they had four of Portland's eight hits.

Both outfielders are expected to rejoin Boston within a week. Cameron is 5-for-18 in the Minors between Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket, and Ellsbury is 4-for-10 with an RBI and a steal.

Gibson, a 6-foot-6 right-hander, improved to 2-0 in his second Double-A start, five days after throwing 7 1/3 scoreless frames in his debut against Harrisburg. The 22-year-old went 4-1 with a 1.87 ERA in seven starts for Class A Advanced Fort Myers.

Another former Twins first-rounder, Ben Revere, singled twice and drew a pair of walks, scoring twice as the Rock Cats' leadoff man. The center fielder is hitting .301 at Double-A this season.

Erik Lis homered in the fifth for New Britain, his first, and 2009 Arizona Fall League Rising Star Rene Tosoni added two RBIs in the win.

Former third-round pick Kyle Weiland fell to 0-3 after allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings.
