Four Lake Monsters Named To All-Star Roster

Bronson, Clegg, Nicol and Soriano Headed To State College August 18th

BURLINGTON, VT --- Four Vermont Lake Monsters have been selected to play in the 2009 New York-Penn League All-Star Game on Tuesday, August 18th in State College, Pennsylvania, the league announced today with the release of the rosters for both the American and National League-affiliated teams.

Infielders Francisco Soriano and Sean Nicol, along with pitchers Mitchell Clegg and Evan Bronson are the Lake Monster representatives to the NY-Penn League's fifth annual All-Star Game.

Soriano leads Vermont with a .308 average (36-for-117) heading into the Lake Monsters game tonight at Batavia. The second-baseman has scored 25 runs with 18 RBI in 15 stolen bases in 39 games. Soriano recently had a 12-game hitting streak July 26th to August 7th, hitting .388 (19-for-49) during the streak.

Nicol is hitting .262 (38-for-145) with 22 runs, seven doubles and 12 RBI in 40 games. The shortstop was hitting as high as .367 (22-for-60) on July 10th, but has seen his average drop from .346 to .262 over the last 18 games since missing six straight due to injury.

Clegg is 1-2 with a 1.89 ERA in nine games (seven starts), allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 37 hits over 38 innings with seven walks and 22 strikeouts. Five of the nine runs allowed by the left-hander came in one start vs. Lowell on July 25th, while he has a 0.93 ERA (29 IP, 25 H, 4 R, 3 ER) in his other six starts.

Bronson is 2-0 with two saves and a 0.84 ERA in 13 games out of the Lake Monsters bullpen. The left-hander has allowed six runs (three earned) on 22 hits with just 1 walk and 22 strikeouts over 32 innings. He allowed 2 earned runs on 7 hits at Oneonta on July 28th, while just 1 earned run on 15 hits over 29 1/3 innings in his other 12 outings (0.31 ERA).

The NY-Penn League All-Star Game, which pits players from the seven National League affiliates against the seven American League affiliates, will begin at 7:15 p.m. at Medlar Field.
