Gray fans nine in River Cats shutout

Athletics' No. 5 prospect allows five hits over seven innings

Fifth-ranked A's prospect Sonny Gray (8-5) scattered five hits and two walks while striking out nine over seven frames to lead Sacramento to a 1-0 blanking of Fresno on Thursday. The nine strikeouts fell just two short of his season high.

Gray has a 2.81 ERA in 102 1/3 innings for the River Cats. He has fanned 107 and walked 34.

Third-ranked D-backs prospect Matt Davidson tripled, doubled twice and drove in two runs for Reno in a 9-2 victory over Colorado Springs.

Brad Snyder also went 3-for-5 with three RBIs for the Aces, falling a home run short of a cycle.

Chris Narveson (2-4) allowed just three hits and three walks while striking out seven in eight frames to pitch Nashville to a 7-0 whitewash of Memphis.

Khris Davis, Robinzon Diaz and Blake Davis homered in the win for the Sounds.

No. 16 Yankees prospect Brett Marshall (4-6) yielded a pair of runs on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in eight innings to earn the victory as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre topped Buffalo, 5-2.

In his last three starts, Marshall has a 2.37 ERA with 21 strikeouts and four walks in 19 innings.

New York's No. 17 prospect Dellin Betances struck out two in a perfect ninth to pick up his third save. He hasn't allowed a run in his last six appearances spanning 10 2/3 innings.
