RICHMOND, VA - The Flying Squirrels will kick off the home portion of their 2012 schedule with a seven-game home stand at The Diamond against the Altoona Curve and the Reading Phillies. Richmond will take on the Curve in a four-game series April 12-15 before squaring off against the R-Phils in a three-game set April 16-18. The opening home stand is jam-packed with giveaways, live bands and an appearance from Atlanta Braves legend Dale Murphy.

Thursday, April 12th vs. Altoona

Gates Open: 4:30 PM First Pitch: 6:35 PM

The Flying Squirrels will celebrate Opening Night with a variety of special events courtesy of Erie Insurance, Clear Channel Richmond and Boomer magazine. Former Richmond Brave Dale Murphy will be on hand to throw out the first pitch and sign autographs as soon as the game begins. Additionally, Nutzy will make grand entrance via jetpack as part of the Buick Verano Fly-In. Fans will be entertained by the No BS! Brass Band upon entering The Diamond and a post-game fireworks extravaganza will follow the contest between the Flying Squirrels and the Curve.

Friday, April 13th vs. Altoona

Gates Open: 5:30 PM First Pitch: 6:35 PM

Game two of the home stand features a plethora of promotions, including Ladies Night and Reading Night. Pre-game festivities will include a Reading Night parade featuring children who successfully completed Nutzy's Reading Challenge and a Q & A session with Richmond Investigators of the Paranormal. Kids will run the bases after the Squirrels-Curve tilt courtesy of McDonald's and Richmond Family Magazine. A post-game fireworks spectacular will follow the ballgame. Fans will hear live music from Deep Fried Mojo upon entering The Diamond.

Additionally, a Friday the 13th Fright Fest presented by WHAN 102.9 FM will take place featuring a Q & A session with KB and Big Ray of the Richmond Investigators of the Paranormal. Fans can also meet Helicopter Zombie Jim Krut from the popular film Dawn of the Dead and author Jeff Mudgett will sign copies of his book Bloodstains.

Saturday, April 14th vs. Altoona

Gates Open: 5:00 PM First Pitch: 6:35 PM

The home stand continues with a celebration of the Flying Squirrels' 2011 Western Division Championship squad. The first 2,500 fans ages 21 and over will receive a Western Division Champions Fleece Blanket courtesy of Budweiser and 98.9 Liberty. Several members of the 2011 Richmond club will participate in an on-filed Q & A session prior to the Squirrels game against Altoona. Kids will run the bases following the game compliments of McDonald's and Richmond Family Magazine. Fans will be entertained by The BopCats as they pass through the turnstiles.

Sunday, April 15th vs. Altoona

Gates Open: 12:30 PM First Pitch: 2:05 PM

It's the first Kroger Squirrels Tails Kids Club Sunday. Fans will get the chance to play catch on the field from 1:15-1:35 PM courtesy of Nesquik. Additionally, the first 2,000 kids ages 14 and under will receive a pair of Flying Squirrels batting gloves compliments of HCA Virginia and Radio Disney AM 1290. It's also Jackie Robinson Day and the Flying Squirrels will join the rest of professional baseball in honoring the legacy of one of baseball's greatest pioneers along with Ray Boone and the Richmond Free Press. Kids will run the bases following the Richmond-Altoona finale courtesy of McDonald's and Richmond Family Magazine. Fans will hear the dulcet tones of the VCU Pep Band as they enter The Diamond for a celebration of VCU Alumni Day.

Monday, April 16th vs. Reading

Gates Open: 5:30 PM First Pitch: 6:35 PM

Alpacas will roam The Diamond before the series opener between Richmond and Reading as the Flying Squirrels celebrate Alpaca Appreciation Night presented by Elite Group of Virginia Alpaca Breeders and Lite 98. Nine Alpacas will be located at The Diamond's front gate and there will be an on-field Q & A session with an Alpaca farmer and an Alpaca. Additionally, it's the first McDonald's Monday, where fans can purchase two-for-one tickets by presenting a McDonald's receipt at the Flying Squirrels Box Office. The music of Tough Deal will greet fans as they enter The Diamond.

Tuesday, April 17th vs. Reading

Gates Open: 5:30 PM First Pitch: 6:35 PM

The Flying Squirrels honor the environment with Go Green Night along with 103.7 The River. The festivities surrounding game two of the Richmond-Reading series will include a Go Green Vendor Fair on the concourse featuring Argent Credit Union, Dave and Buster's, Dominion Green Power, Richmond Senior Network and Grease Monkey. It's also Silver Squirrels Night presented by HealthSouth. The Test of Time Band will perform in the AAA Ultimate Fan Zone as fans pass through The Diamond's turnstiles.

Wednesday, April 18th vs. Reading

Gates Open: 9:30 AM First Pitch: 10:35 AM

The home stand concludes with Education Day as schoolchildren from every corner of the Greater Richmond area will enjoy a day of baseball at The Diamond. Kids will be treated to the music of The Diggity Dudes and they will have the opportunity to participate in a pre-game Q & A with Flying Squirrels players. Additionally, teachers will receive Education Day Activity Books to distribute to their students and ESPN 950's "Sports Phone With Big Al" will be broadcasting live on site prior to the game.
