JAXX WIN OPENER AGAINST SMOKIES

JACKSON, TENN. (August 23, 2010) - The Diamond Jaxx (27-30) won their third straight game on Monday night by beating the first place Tennessee Smokies (36-21) at Pringles Park, 7-4. The win snapped a four game losing streak against the Smokies. Also, with the win and a Huntsville loss, the Diamond Jaxx are now 4 ½ games up in the wildcard standings with 13 games to play.

Alex Liddi moved into second place in franchise single season history after a three RBI performance on Monday night. Liddi now has 83 RBI's, which is one better than the 82 driven in by Corey Patterson in 2002. Liddi and Guillermo Quiroz had two hits while Johan Limonta and Carlos Triunfel had three knocks. The Jaxx pounded out 14 hits on the night. Tony Campana, Brandon Guyer, Matt Spencer and Tony Thomas each had two hits out of the Smokies 11 in the game.

Trey McNutt (0-1) suffered his first loss in 2010, in his first start for the Smokies. McNutt was 10-0 this season in Low-A and High-A, but allowed five runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings Monday. Luis Munoz (6-5) earned the win for the Jaxx by going five strong innings. Munoz surrendered two runs on five hits and struck out five. Mumba Rivera saved his second straight game for the Diamond Jaxx by working a perfect ninth inning.

Alex Liddi brought home Matt Lawson with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning Monday. The 81st RBI of the season by Liddi gave the Jaxx a 1-0 advantage.

The Smokies tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning. Tony Campana laid down a bunt single that scored Tony Thomas from third base.

Tennessee took the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI double from Tony Campana that scored Steve Clevenger. The Smokies took a 2-1 lead.

The Jaxx re-took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning by posting a four spot in the inning. Matt Lawson, Joe Dunigan, Alex Liddi and Johan Limonta had RBI's in the inning.

Matt Spencer brought in Brandon Guyer with a single in the top of the sixth inning. The Smokies cut the Jaxx lead to 5-3.

With the Jaxx up 6-4 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning, West Tenn added one more run despite having the bases loaded with no one out. The one run came in on an RBI single by Alex Liddi. Liddi's third RBI of the game gave the Jaxx a 7-4 advantage.

The Jaxx and Smokies meet again on Tuesday night at Pringles Park, with first pitch at 7:05. RHP Steve Bray (7-9, 4.38) makes the start for the Jaxx while Ty'Relle Harris (0-0, 0.00) makes his Smokies debut on the mound. On Tuesday Kids and seniors can eat free, with paid admission, presented by Nestle. Also, Kraft Singles presents Tuesday night (2 for 1) tickets by bringing a Kraft Singles wrapper to the box office.
