Jonathan Diaz Continues Hot Start for Fisher Cats

(Manchester, NH)---Rey Gonzalez allowed two runs in six innings and Jonathan Diaz reached safely two more times but the Fisher Cats dropped a 4-1 decision on Wednesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The Fisher Cats (3-4) took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Ricardo Nanita led off with a single and moved to third on a single by Diaz.  Anthony Gose grounded to third, which was misplayed for an error, allowing Nanita to score.  Gose picked up his second RBI of the season. 

Reading (5-2) scored the final four runs of the game.  In the top of the sixth inning, Tuffy Gosewisch singled, Freddy Galvis (2-for-3, BB, 2 R) walked and Harold Garcia reached on a bunt single to load the bases.  Michael Spidale grounded into a fielders choice as Gosewisch scored to make it 1-1.  Matt Rizzotti (1-for-2, 2 RBI) followed with a sacrifice fly to put the R-Phils in front 2-1.

The Phillies scored two more in the top of the eighth inning.  Galvis and Garcia each singled to put runners on the corner.  Spidale reached on an error as Galvis scored and Rizzotti followed with his second sacrifice fly. 

Austin Hyatt (2-0) worked the first five innings for Reading, allowing three hits and one run. He walked two and struck out three.  Chance Chapman, Jacob Diekman and Michael Cisco worked four shutout innings in relief to help the Phillies complete the three-game sweep.

Gonzalez (0-1) took the loss for New Hampshire.  Diaz, who has an on-base percentage of .550, reached safely eight of the ten times he came up in the Reading series.   

The Fisher Cats open a seven-game roadtrip on Thursday night in Binghamton.  LHP Mark Cohoon (0-0, 1.80) is the scheduled starter for the Mets against New Hampshire RHP B.J. LaMura (1-0, 0.00).  Game time is 6:35pm and radio coverage with Bob Lipman begins at 6:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
