Kendall returns to Baysox for 2013

Baltimore native to manage Bowie for third straight season

BOWIE, Md. -- The Bowie Baysox and the Baltimore Orioles announced the Baysox coaching staff for the 2013 season. Baltimore native Gary Kendall returns for his third season as manager and is joined by Field Coach Einar Diaz, Pitching Coach Blaine Beatty and Athletic Trainer Aaron Scott.

Kendall returns for his third season with the Baysox and begins his 14th season in the Orioles organization after leading the team to a 78-64 record and a playoff berth last season. Prior to joining the Baysox, Kendall spent three seasons managing the Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds. Kendall began his coaching career with the Orioles as the Field Coach for the Rookie-level Bluefield Orioles (2000-2001) and the IronBirds (2002-2003) before making his managerial debut with Bluefield in 2004. After that season he spent three years as the manager for the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds (2005-2007). Kendall graduated from Sparrows Point High School in Baltimore and played at the Community College of Baltimore and Atlantic Christian College.

Diaz enters his second stint as Field Coach for the Baysox after coaching in the same position for the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2012. Entering his sixth season coaching in the Orioles organization, Diaz was also the Baysox Field Coach in 2011. Prior to joining the Baysox, Diaz spent two years managing the Bluefield Orioles (2009-10) after spending the 2008 season as the Field Coach for the Bluefield Orioles and the Aberdeen Ironbirds. In his playing career, Diaz logged 673 games over 11 Major League seasons with the Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Montreal Expos and St. Louis Cardinals.

Beatty joins the Baysox for his first year as Pitching Coach after spending the past three seasons in the same position with the Advanced-A Frederick Keys. Entering his eighth season in the Orioles organization, Beatty served as Pitching Coach with the Keys for six years, while also spending the 2009 season with the Delmarva Shorebirds. Prior to joining the Orioles, Beatty spent nine years coaching in the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Mets organizations. Originally drafted by the Orioles in 1986, Beatty spent 12 seasons in the Minor Leagues, going 121-69 with a 3.26 ERA in 296 games.

Rounding out the Baysox coaching staff is Athletic Trainer Aaron Scott, who returns to the team for his third season. Scott began his coaching career as Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2004, spent a year as the Orioles Florida Trainer (2005), before stops as the Athletic Trainer for the Bluefield Orioles (2006), Aberdeen Ironbirds (2007-2008) and Delmarva Shorebirds (2009-2010).
