Lis, Miracle top Yankees for 10th straight win

Erik Lis continued his home run binge, leading Fort Myers to its 10th straight victory Wednesday.

Lis, the Florida State League's reigning Offensive Player of the Week, homered for the sixth time in nine games to power the visiting Miracle to a 5-2 win over Tampa.

The 23-year-old first baseman launched a two-run blast, his 15th, to put Fort Myers (30-23) on the board in the first inning. Lis, who homered twice in Tuesday's game, is hitting .400 with six roundtrippers and 17 RBIs since the start of the Miracle's win streak Aug. 5.

Edward Ovalle stroked a two-RBI single and Dwayne White added an RBI groundout to cap the five-run first.

Fort Myers starter Jeff Manship (7-3) gave up two runs on seven hits and one walk while fanning five in six innings. The 22-year-old right-hander has given up three or fewer earned runs in 22 of his 23 starts between Fort Myers and Class A Beloit this season.

Eduardo Morlan struck out the side in order in the ninth for his 17th save.

The 10-game surge is a Florida State League high this season and marks the second-best run in the Miracle history. With the win, Fort Myers pulled to three games behind first-place Tampa (33-20) in the league's West Division.

Yankees starter George Kontos (4-5) surrendered five runs -- four earned -- on 10 hits while striking out five without a walk in 4 2/3 innings.

Jared Greenwood belted an RBI double in the second before Andres Perez lashed a run-scoring single in the sixth for Tampa, which has dropped three straight.
