Loons Shut Out Captains 3-0

August 25, 2012

(Midland, MI) - The Lake County Captains (34-27, 65-65) were defeated by the Great Lakes Loons (25-36, 61-70) by a final of 3-0. The Captains stranded a total of eleven runners on base. The bases were left loaded in the fourth inning, and in the eighth the Captains had runners at second and third base and nobody out and could not score. The final was 3-0. The Loons scored first. In the bottom of the opening frame, Jesus Arredondo doubled and later scored when Joe Winker singled to left field. Zach MaPhee committed his first error of the year when he bobbled the baseball. That allowed Arredondo to scamper home and make the score 1-0 Great Lakes.

In the second inning, Michael Pericht walked to open the inning. The next two men were retired. With two outs, Morimando un-corked a wild pitch. Pericht moved to second and later scored when Darnell Sweeney doubled to left center field. The score was 2-0 Loons.

O'Koyea Dickson hit his team leading 16th homerun of the season with one out in the third inning, to put the Loons out to the 3-0 lead. The homerun added to his team lead, which stood at fifteen long balls. The solo homer now gives Dickson 45 RBI's this season.

LHP Shawn Morimando (6-6) started the game for the Captains. Morimando took the loss. Shawn pitched just four innings, allowing five hits, three runs, two of the runs were earned. Shawn walked three and struck out two. Morimando surrendered the homer to Dickson. Joshua Nervis pitched three scoreless innings allowing just one hit and walking three. Kyle Petter lasted two thirds of an inning before he was removed with an apparent injury. Manny Carmona entered and struck out the only man he faced.

Campbell lasted three innings and allowed two hits, a walks and three strikeouts. Scott Griggs (1-0) got the win. Griggs pitched three innings allowing two hits, four walks and he fanned two.
