Loons Win the Finale 6-5

(Midland, MI) - The Lake County Captains (35-29, 66-67) lost to the Great Lakes Loons (27-37, 63-71) by a final of 6-5. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jesus Arredondo walked to lead off the inning. He was sacrificed to second base. With one out, Joe Winker doubled to left center and the ballgame was tied at 5-5. O'Kyea Dickson doubled to left filed and Winker scored to give the Loons the one run lead at 6-5.

Great Lakes scored two runs in the second inning to open the scoring. After the first two batters of the inning were struck out, Michael Pericht walked and Jeff hunt doubled him home. Hunt later scored on a single by James Baldwin and it was 2-0 Loons.

In the top of the fourth inning, Jordan Smith and Bryson Myles singled. With two outs, Alex Lavisky came to the plate and smashed his eleventh homerun of the season over the left field wall and the Captains had the 3-2 lead. In the fifth inning, Jose Ramirez led off with a solo homerun his third of the season and it was 4-2 Lake County halfway through the ballgame.

Joe Winker hit a solo homerun in the bottom half of the sixth inning to cut the Captains lead down to one run. The homer went to right field and was the tenth of the season for Winker. The score headed into the seventh inning was 4-3 Captains.

Jerrud Sabourin hit a sacrifice fly to give the Captains a two run lead heading to the bottom of the seventh. The bases were loaded and there was one out when Sabourin came to the plate, his fly ball to center scored Jose Ramirez and the score was 5-3 Lake County. Jeff Hunt got the Loons back to within one run as he homered to right field. The homerun was Hunt's sixth of the season and the score was 5-4.

In the four game series Lake County stranded a total of 35 runners on base. The Captains lost the four game set to the Loons three games to one.

LHP Elvis Araujo (7-9) started the game for the Captains and did not get a decision. Araujo pitched seven innings allowing five hits and four earned runs. Araujo walked just two and fanned seven. Elvis left the building with the one run lead. Cody Penny (2-1) took the loss. Penny pitched one inning and allowed two hits, two earned runs, two walks, and he struck out one.

RHP Raydel Sanchez (3-8) got the nod for the Loons. Sanchez pitched six innings and allowed seven hits, and four earned runs. Sanchez yielded three walks and two homers. Sanchez also fanned three Captains. Geoff Brown (1-0) earned the win. Brown pitched two and one third innings allowing four hits and one un-earned run. Danny Coulombe earned his first save of the seaon after working just two thirds of an inning.

On Wednesday, The Captains will return home to Eastlake, Ohio to open the final home stand of the 2012 season. The Bowling Green Hot Rods will come to town for a three game set. The Captains will send RHP Cody Anderson (4-7, 3.30) to the mound to face the LHP Ryan Carpenter (11-7, 4.13) for Bowling Green. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
