#6: 9/8/2000 Game One vs. Beloit , Western Division Finals

When Cha Seung Baek was getting ready to make his rehab start for the Timber Rattlers late in the 2007 season, I wrote out the play-by-play of this game on Rattler Radio.

The Rattlers had just eliminated the Kane County Cougars in the first round and it was on to Beloit for the first game of the Western Division Finals.  Baek, who went 8-5 during the regular season got the call and he would face Brewer prospect Dave Pember.

This may have been one of the better pitched playoff games I have seen.  It was scoreless all the way to the ninth inning.

Baek rolled through the Beloit lineup.  Pember danced in and out of trouble for six innings.  The game was still scoreless when Pember left in favor of Victor Cordero in the top of the seventh inning.  But, Cordero kept the game tied until the ninth.

In that final inning, Justin Leone singled and Ryan Christianson dropped a sacrifice bunt and wound up reaching on a fielder's choice.  A sac bunt by Orlando Hernandez moved both runners into scoring position.  The Snappers decided to walk pinch hitter Mike Abate to load the bases.

Cordero struck out Ariel Durango for out number two.  Then, Ruben Castillo stepped to the plate.  Cordero threw a wild pitch to allow Leone to score the first run of the game.  Castillo followed with a two-run single and the lead was suddenly 3-0.

Baek went out and tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning for a complete-game, six-hit shutout.  He struck out three, walked none, and tossed just over 100 pitches in the gem to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead in the series.

Rattler first baseman Shawn McCorkle kept up his hot hitting in the playoffs with a 3-for-4 game.  In the final two games of the Kane County series and the first game of the Beloit series, McCorkle went 8-for-10.

FUTURE MAJOR LEAGUERS IN THE GAME:
