Miracle: Turning water into promotion

Twins' Class A Adv. team pokes fun at thirsty Florida senator
February 14, 2013
Of the many Minor League teams stationed in Florida, one is not letting the state's most visible senator off the hook.

Class A Advanced Twins affiliate Fort Myers announced Thursday it would be hosting "a Marco Rubio water bottle giveaway night" at Hammond Stadium this coming season.

Sen. Rubio, a Republican leader, became an Internet sensation Tuesday night when he interrupted his party's live response to President Obama's State of the Union speech to grab a sip from a glass of water.

The Fort Myers Miracle's announcement is the latest in a litany of ripped-from-the-headlines promotions planned this offseason: Class A Advanced San Jose made light of the strange Manti Te'o tale, and Class A Lake County made its first pitch to cyclist Lance Armstrong. As part of the Rubio-themed night, for which a date wasn't specified, the Miracle plan to distribute free water bottles to fans and give ticket-holders a chance to recreate Rubio's TV moment. There will also be a mid-game rain dance as well as a park-wide game of Marco Polo.
