New logo, new turf for PNC Field
First, workers turned the infield diamond green with the first patches of a natural grass playing surface. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees executive vice president Jeremy Ruby said the sod-laying should be completed by Wednesday. Lackawanna County hired the Motz Group to install the new surface for $522,000.
Then, officials gathered to unveil the new, diamond-shaped logo heralding the stadium's recently acquired name and corporate sponsorship by PNC Financial Services Group. Lackawanna County Commissioner Robert C. Cordaro and Peter J. Danchak, PNC's president for Northeastern Pennsylvania, were on hand for the unveiling.
"Everything about this transaction has been done in a truly professional way," Mr. Danchak said of the bank's relationship with Lackawanna County and management firm Mandalay Baseball Properties. He said PNC is proud to be associated with "a great family entertainment venue."
The process of installing the new PNC signs around the stadium will take until next Friday, Mr. Ruby added.
Opening day is April 5. Mr. Ruby said players likely will tread on the new field the first time during afternoon practice April 3.
