August 12, 2008
TROY, N.Y. - The New York-Penn League has released the 2008 New York-Penn League All-Star rosters for the American and National League affiliates. The All-Star rosters are comprised of 56 players from the 14 teams in the league.

The two teams will be broken down into National League and American League affiliations. The American League All-Star team will be managed by the Staten Island coaching staff, led by manager Pat McMahon. Darrin Everson and his coaching staff from the Jamestown Jammers will manage the National League All-Star team.

"National Grid is proud to be a sponsor of this year's New York-Penn League All-Star game," said William Flaherty, Energy Solutions Regional Director for National Grid. "This is a great opportunity to see some of the best players in the New York-Penn League play baseball. Bringing this game to 'The Joe' and the home of the Valley Cats is great opportunity for the community and National Grid."

This season, fans were able to vote for their favorite New York-Penn Leaguers at www.allstarchoice.com, an online fan ballot. Leading all vote getters was Robbie Alcombrack, a catcher from the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. "We always take the fans view into perspective because they see some things that we do not," said Ben Hayes, New York-Penn League President. Alcombrack, a seventh round selection in the 2006 draft, will be honored during the All-Star Festivities as CSEA's All-Star Choice.com Fan's Choice recipient.

The 2008 New York-Penn League All-Star Game will be held at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Tuesday, August 19. It is the fourth All-Star Game in league history and is the first professional baseball All-Star Game to be held in New York's Capital Region. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 pm with a Home Run Derby prior at 6:00 pm.

The game itself is just one of the events being held during the two-day celebration. On Monday, August 18, the City of Troy will host the All-Star Fan Fest featuring a free concert by rocker Eddie Money at 6:00 pm. On Tuesday, August 19, The Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce and The Desmond Hotel will host the All-Star Luncheon with keynote speaker Goose Gossage commencing at 12:00 pm.
