August 1, 2012
(Woodbridge, VA) - The Potomac Nationals and Salem Red Sox game was suspended until tomorrow evening due to rain in Woodbridge, Virginia. The game is slated to resume at 5:05 PM with the teams tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning. Tomorrow night's series finale is still scheduled to begin at 7:05 PM.

After the top of the ninth was finished, the rain began to come down hard and the game was officially put into a rain delay at 10:00 PM. The contest was officially suspended until tomorrow night after an hour and seven minute delay.

Tonight's game was highlighted by the return of Jayson Werth to Pfitzner Stadium on rehab assignment. Werth, in his second game with the P-Nats, was 2-for-3 with a run in four plate appearances.

Potomac jumped on starter Brandon Workman right away with three runs in the bottom of the first. Werth led off with a line drive double to right center and advanced to third base on a bunt single by Michael Taylor. Hague brought in Werth with an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. After an RBI groundout by David Freitas, Jason Martinson picked up his 97th run batted in of the year with an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.

Alex Meyer allowed his first earned run in Advanced-A in the top of the third inning. Drew Hedman doubled off the right field wall and moved to third on a bloop double by Shannon Wilkerson. Heiker Meneses' RBI groundout scored Hedman to make it 3-1 and end Meyer's scoreless inning streak.

Behind some aggressive baserunning, the Red Sox tied the contest with two runs in the seventh inning. Wilkerson singled with one out and moved up to second base on a passed ball. Felix Sanchez brought the Sox within a run with an RBI single. Sanchez then used his speed to move into scoring position by stealing second and third base. He then scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Almanzar to tie the game.

The two runs in the seventh inning spoiled a win for Meyer. He allowed one earned run in five innings on six hits with three strikeouts and received a no-decision. Workman also received a no-decision notching a quality start surrendering three runs in six innings.

After the suspended game is concluded, the P-Nats finish their series against the Salem Red Sox tomorrow evening at 7:05 PM.
