Pillar paces Rafters in wild AFL win

Midwest League MVP Kevin Pillar drove in two runs, stole two bases -- including home -- and scored twice as the Rafters overcame a six-run deficit to defeat Peoria, 12-9. Pillar, a Blue Jays prospect, went 3-for-5 and was one of three Salt River hitters with more than one RBI. Anthony Rendon, the Nationals' top prospect, drove in three runs, while Chris Owings (D-Backs) collected three doubles and a pair of RBIs for the Rafters. Reds' top prospect Billy Hamilton stole three bases and scored twice for the Javelinas, despite going 0-for-3. Pirates farmhand Kyle Kaminska gave up three hits over five scoreless innings and Ricky Oropesa (Giants) launched a two-run homer as the Scorpions halted a three-game slide. The Solar Sox managed only three hits until the ninth, when reliever Vic Black (Pirates) walked the bases loaded and surrendered a two-run single to Orioles' No. 12 prospect L.J. Hoes. Surprise 7, Phoenix 3

Cardinals prospect Seth Blair struck out five over 3 1/3 scoreless innings and the Saguaros scored four runs on bases-loaded walks and two more on throwing errors against sloppy Phoenix. Dustin Lawley (Mets) produced the game's only homer, slugging a two-run shot in the seventh, while Rangers infielder Hanser Alberto went 3-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored for Surprise.
