Player Poll: Trout is the greatest catch

Most Minor Leaguers would build fantasy team around Angel
September 26, 2012

This season, we surveyed hundreds of Minor Leaguers on a variety of questions, from favorite players and postgame snacks to video games and dream teammates. Check back as we find out what prospects really think.

Even before the season had begun, the word was out on Mike Trout.

We surveyed 382 Minor Leaguers during April, asking them, "Which top prospect would you want to build your fantasy team around?"

We also provided some suggestions, including the Cardinals' Shelby Miller, the Rangers' Jurickson Profar, the Nationals' Bryce Harper, the Orioles' Manny Machado, and MLB.com's No. 1 prospect entering 2012, Trout.

And Trout, the current favorite for American League Rookie of the Year and MVP, easily won the poll, garnering 42 percent of the vote. Harper, who was also promoted and selected to the Major League All-Star Game opposite Trout, earned 17 percent of the vote, while Orioles sensation Manny Machado finished third with eight percent.

Players of course threw in some write-in votes, some surely for themselves. Notable write-in candidates included Tony Cingrani of the Reds, Miami's Christian Yelich, Rays 2011 first-rounder Mikie Mahtook and former Tigers top prospect and current Marlin Jacob Turner. None of the write-in players received more than three votes.
