July 7, 2010
PORTLAND, Maine -- The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Reading Phillies first baseman Matt Rizzotti has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of June.

Matt had an outstanding month for the R-Phils, batting .369 (38-for-103) with seven doubles, seven home runs, 24 RBIs, 16 runs scored, a .641 slugging percentage and a .409 on-base percentage in 27 games. The 24-year old had at least one hit in 20 of the 26 games he started during the month of June, including putting together a 14-game hitting streak June 15-29, during which he hit .509 with five doubles, six homers, 21 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Matt finished the month with 13 multiple hit games and scored at least one run in 15 games during the month. Rizzotti, who is a native of Floral Park, N.Y., led all Eastern League players in hits (38) and total bases (66) during the month of June. He also ranked among the monthly leaders in batting average (.369, 2nd), slugging percentage (.641, 2nd), OPS (1.050, 2nd), home runs (7, T-3rd) and RBIs (24, T-4th).

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound slugger started the season with the Clearwater Threshers of the Class A Advanced Florida State League and earned a promotion to Reading on May 13 after hitting .358 with eight doubles and 18 runs scored in 31 games. Rizzotti hasn't missed a beat since joining the R-Phils, batting .360 (64-for-178) with 17 doubles, 11 home runs, 43 RBIs and 30 runs scored in 50 games. He would currently lead the league in batting average, slugging percentage (.640) and OPS (1.056) and would rank second in on-base percentage (.415) if he had enough plate appearances to qualify.

Matt, who was recently named to the Eastern Division roster for the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game and was the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending June 27th, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the sixth round of the June 2007 First-Year Player Draft after hitting .352 with 11 home runs during his junior season at Manhattan College.
