Simon Castro on Top 100 prospect list

Ace ranked No. 58 prospect in baseball
February 23, 2011
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Former TinCaps RHP Simon Castro was ranked the No. 58 prospect in baseball by Baseball America. Castro pitched the only no-hitter in Fort Wayne franchise history in 2009.

Castro, 22, led the Midwest League with 157 strikeouts in 2009 as the TinCaps won the league championship. He fired a seven-inning no-hitter on August 18, 2009, against Dayton, facing just one batter over the minimum.

In 2010, the Dominican native was the starting pitcher for the World Team in the prestigious Futures Game. He went 7-6 with a 2.92 ERA for the Double-A San Antonio Missions and was promoted to the Triple-A level late in the season.

Castro was one of three Padres prospects ranked in Baseball America's Top 100. The others, RHP Casey Kelly (No. 31) and 1B Anthony Rizzo (No. 75), were both acquired from the Boston Red Sox this off-season in the Adrian Gonzalez trade.

TinCaps tickets, group outings and picnics for the 2011 season are now on sale. Visit the tickets page or call (260) 482-6400 for more information.
