Smokies add pitcher Rusin to the roster Monday

Rusin joins Tennessee, Mateo promoted to Tirple-A Iowa

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Class AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, have added LHP Chris Rusin to the active roster in advance of the team's series opener Monday night in Montgomery. In a related roster move, RHP Marcos Mateo was promoted to Class AAA Iowa.

Rusin joins the Smokies for the first time in his career after starting the 2010 campaign with the High-A Daytona Cubs. In 20 appearances (17 starts), he was 4-3 with a 3.36 ERA. He has allowed 79 hits, 43 runs (34 earned runs), 15 walks, while striking out 84. The Canton, Mich native was selected by the Cubs in the fourth round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Mateo was 0-0 with a 2.18 ERA in 17 appearances for Tennessee this season, striking out 27 in 20.2 innings of work. Initially signed by the Cincinnati, he was acquired by the Cubs in a trade for outfielder Buck Coats in 2007.
