Episode 70:

Extended Three Strikes (2:40)

  • The 70th episode of the Minor League Baseball podcast is packed following the passing of the 2016 Trade Deadline on Aug. 1. Tyler and Sam break down which farm systems got significantly stronger, which were weakened and what's next for top prospects such as Clint Frazier and Lewis Brinson.
  • The second strike covers a player who was almost dealt at the deadline: Indians No. 4 prospect Francisco Mejia. The 20-year-old catcher is riding a 45-game hitting streak, the longest in the Minors since 2009. The guys talk about what this breakout campaign means for the switch-hitting backstop.
  • Likely to lead the podcast any other week, Tyler and Sam touch on the Major League promotions of top-10 overall prospects Andrew Benintendi and Orlando Arcia.

Ben's Biz Banter (31:50)

  • MiLB.com's Benjamin Hill calls in from Modesto, California, two days after beginning his final road trip of the 2016 season on the West Coast. Ben talks about what makes Triple-A Sacramento such a successful franchise, what it's like to race around a park as Ronald Reagan and what's up with Class A Advanced Stockton's infatuation with asparagus.
