Tides announce Opening Day roster

Former IL MVP Gary Allenson returns for 4th season as Tides manager

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Tides have announced their 2010 opening roster. The club will once again be managed by Gary Allenson, who joins Frank Verdi (1977-80) as the only person to skipper the Tides for four consecutive seasons. Rounding out the coaching staff is hitting coach Richie Hebner, pitching coach Mike Griffin and coach Greg Grall.

The Tides roster includes catchers Adam Donachie and Steve Lerud; infielders Michael Aubrey, Josh Bell, Rhyne Hughes, Scott Moore, Brandon Snyder and Justin Turner; outfielders Joey Gathright, Lou Montanez, Jeff Salazar and Jonathan Tucker; and pitchers Jake Arrieta, Alberto Castillo, Brandon Erbe, Chris George, Frank Mata, Kam Mickolio, Jim Miller, Troy Patton, Dennis Sarfate, Alfredo Simon, Chris Tillman and Ross Wolf.

Catcher Michel Hernandez (fractured right index finger) will begin the season on the disabled list.

The Tides begin their 2010 regular season tonight with a home contest against the Durham Bulls at 7:15. Chris Tillman is schedule to take the mound for Norfolk against Bulls right-hander Jeremy Hellickson.

Prior to tonight's game, there will be a special ceremony honoring Hampton Roads Police and Firefighters. Also, the first 10,000 fans will receive a 2010 Magnet Schedule, courtesy of Bank of the Commonwealth and ESPN Radio 94.1.
