Tides drop Saturday slugfest

June 5, 2010
Norfolk and Buffalo combined for 37 hits as the Tides dropped a 12-9 slugfest at Harbor Park Saturday night.

The Bisons jumped out to an early lead off of spot starter Andy Mitchell (0-1), who was making his first start of the season for Norfolk. Buffalo sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs in the first inning, then tacked on another run in the second for a 7-0 lead.

Norfolk eventually pulled to within 8-7 in the contest, but a four-run ninth inning for the Bisons helped put the game away.

Buffalo finished with a season-high 22 hits, with Jesus Feliciano and Mike Jacobs both collecting five hits apiece. Jacobs drove home five runs in the win, three of which came on a bases loaded triple in the ninth inning.

Each batter in Norfolk's lineup registered a hit, with six different Tides batters collecting a multi-hit game. Nolan Reimold and Brandon Snyder each homered for Norfolk, which has now dropped four straight games.

The Tides and Bisons will continue their four-game set on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch slated for 1:15. Chris George (1-1, 3.38) is slated to take the hill for Norfolk against Buffalo southpaw Pat Misch (5-1, 2.83).
