Trio of Osprey named MWL All-Stars

With big month, helped South Bend rebound from slow start
June 4, 2011
Three former Missoula Osprey players, now with the South Bend Silver Hawks, have been selected to participate in the 2011 Midwest League All-Star Game, which will take place on June 21 at Quad Cities' Modern Woodmen Park.

Left-handed pitcher David Holmberg, a 2010 member of the Osprey, will be joined by South Bend teammates Matt Helm (2009-10 Osprey) and Ender Inciarte (2009). South Bend shared top honors with Peoria, as each team placed a league-high six players on the rosters.

Holmberg is pitching his best baseball of the season at the moment, coming off the announcement of making the mid-summer classic by tossing his first-ever nine-inning complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits in the 4-0 Silver Hawks win over Quad Cities. On the season, the left-hander is 5-3 with a 3.14 ERA, but has been very impressive since the calendar turned from April to May. Since his last April start, a loss on April 25, Holmberg is 5-0 with a 2.63 ERA in seven starts.

Helm, who has split time between third base and designated hitter, has become a steady member of the Hawks batting order, hitting .282 with 25 RBIs, 13 extra-base hits and seven stolen bases in eight tries. His .705 OPS has been helped by a .301 batting average in the month of May.

Inciarte started his season on fire, hitting .412 in his first 12 games with the Hawks after being called from Extended Spring Training on May 1. The outfielder hit .319 in the month of May, and has a .307 batting average, with 11 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, a .407 on-base percentage an a .777 OPS.

Through Friday's games, the Hawks have a 29-26 record, including a 22-12 record since the end of April. Only Burlington (23-12) has posted a better record in the Midwest League since the calendar flipped from April to May.

The 2011 Osprey will open the season on June 20 at Helena, then will host the Brewers for their home opener on June 22.

Tickets for the Home Opener, as well as all other games this season, are now on sale at the MSO Hub Box Office, located at 140 N. Higgins, by phone at (406) 543-3300 or online at www.MissoulaOsprey.com
