Visalia Beats Bakersfield 13-5 to Conclude Regular Season

David Cardona and John Jaso hit two-run homers as Visalia beat visiting Bakersfield, 13-5, on Monday to clinch the California League North Division second-half title.

Cardona's third homer capped a five-run sixth inning. Jaso belted his 10th long ball and Shaun Cumberland laced a bases-loaded triple during Visalia's six-run seventh.

Starter Jino Gonzalez III (6-7) gave up two runs -- one earned -- on five hits without issuing a walk and fanning one in six innings.

Blaze starter Wandy Morla (1-2) surrendered five runs -- four earned -- on six hits and four walks while striking out two in 5 1/3 frames.

Micah Furtado went 3-for-5 with a run-scoring double in the ninth and Alberto Martinez collected two hits and an RBI for Bakersfield (30-40).

The Oaks (42-28) won nine of their last 12 games to overtake San Jose for the top spot in the North. Visalia will meet Stockton on Wednesday in the first round of the playoffs.-- Ryan McConnell/MLB.com
