Zach Britton to Return to Norfolk

The organizations top pitching prospect, Zach Britton will open the season with Norfolk after being sent down Monday.

Britton was named the Orioles Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2010 after going 10-7 with a 2.70 ERA between Bowie and Norfolk. He pitched to a 3-4 record with a 2.98 ERA in 12 starts for the Tides last season.

This off-season, Britton has been recognized by multiple publications as a top pitching prospect in all baseball. MLB.com named him the 3rd best left-handed pitching prospect in baseball while the MLB Network named him the 24th best prospect in all baseball.

The Orioles also announced three other roster moves Monday, bringing their spring roster to 26 players.

The Orioles optioned CRAIG TATUM to Triple-A Norfolk and assigned INF BRENDAN HARRIS to minor league camp.

RHP JUSTIN DUCHSCHERER was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hip.

With the moves, the Orioles have 26 players in camp including 13 pitchers (one non-roster invitee), five outfielders, six infielders and two catchers.

The Orioles have 39 players on their 40-man major league roster, with 25 of them remaining in camp.
